Is my child getting enough sleep? If you've asked yourself this question, you can't miss this post where we indicate the recommended hours of sleep based on the age of the little ones.

With back-to-school in full swing, it's the perfect time to review some key aspects that help our little ones face the new school year with energy and good health. One of the most important and sometimes overlooked elements in our daily routines is sleep. Yes, sleep! It is essential for our children to perform at their best in school and enjoy every day.

For our children to be at their best, it is crucial that they get adequate sleep according to their age. Let's start with the youngest. Newborns, from 0 to 3 months, need between 14 and 17 hours of sleep per day. It may seem like a lot, but that sleep is vital for their growth, development, and to strengthen their immune system. If you have a baby at home, make sure they are sleeping well, because this will also help you manage your day-to-day better.

When babies grow and move to the 4 to 11 month stage, the amount of sleep decreases to between 12 and 15 hours a day. Although they will still need several naps, it is important that nighttime sleep is restorative. At this stage, good rest supports their cognitive and motor development.

For children aged 1 to 2 years, between 11 and 14 hours of sleep daily is recommended. Here, the sleep routine begins to adjust, with one or two naps during the day and around 10-12 hours at night. Good rest is key for these little ones to learn, grow, and stay healthy.

In the 3 to 5 years stage, children should sleep between 10 and 13 hours a day, which includes nighttime sleep and a possible nap. At this age, sleep helps improve memory and learning, as well as keeping their mood balanced.

For children aged 6 to 12 years, the recommendation is between 9 and 12 hours of sleep each night. Going back to school can bring many activities and tasks, so it is vital that our children rest well to be able to concentrate and perform in school. Insufficient sleep can lead to difficulties concentrating and mood swings, so make sure they get the necessary sleep to be at their best every day.

And for adolescents, who are between 13 and 18 years old, 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night is recommended. This stage of life is crucial, and good rest helps maintain their physical and emotional development in balance. Without enough sleep, they can face problems such as poor academic performance and mood swings, which can be difficult to manage for both them and you.

Back-to-school is a good time to adjust and consolidate routines, and ensure that sleep is at the center of that routine. Good rest not only improves school performance and mood but also contributes to overall optimal health. So, as you prepare for a new school year, remember that good sleep is an essential part of your children's success and well-being. Make sure they sleep well so they can face each day with energy and joy!
