November 20th is International Children's Rights Day. It is a day to reflect on and assert the conditions that all children around the world should have as full rights-holders. It is a time to highlight the protection of minors, mistreatment and exploitation, involvement in family, cultural, and social life...
Our little ones, our best legacy, our greatest treasure. We must care for them, love them, and protect them. That is why this day serves to raise awareness of what is important anywhere on the planet. Children's rights emphasize some essential items for the healthy development and happiness of minors:
- Treat all children equally, regardless of their origins, conditions, or differences.
- Have a name and nationality. At the same time, guarantee their culture, language, and religion.
- Be protected and have a family that cares for and loves them.
- Education, to guarantee personal and individual development.
- Guarantee children's freedom of expression.
- Address physical and psychological diversities to enable full integration into society.
- Right to grow up healthy physically and mentally.
- Foster friendship and interpersonal relationships.
- Play, play, and play.
It seems that sometimes we forget the importance of play in the physical and psychological development of children. Play can improve children's motor and social skills, and it also helps them socialize and regulate their emotions while facilitating the learning of languages and mathematical skills.
That said, what do you think if we plan some games and activities that awaken our little ones' most supportive spirit?
Toy collection: Sort out the toys your children no longer use with them and take them to an NGO so that other children can use them. You will be extending the life of the toy and allowing another child to find their favorite toy.
Cook something from another country: Get to work. Find an international recipe and prepare it with your child. Use these moments to explain the cultural and gastronomic diversity found in other parts of the world.
Visit an NGO: Organize a day visit to a non-profit organization. On this day, you can explain the solidarity actions carried out while also explaining the different realities in more disadvantaged countries.
